Sand Key - Clearwater Beach - Island Estates - 33767 Update
One of Clearwater Beaches moving landmarks is the Jolley Trolley's - these open aired Trolleys are a Fun and Economical way to get around on Clearwater Beach, Sand Key and Island Estates. This is a great service for Clearwater beach condo and home owners from Sand Key to Island Estates as well as the local tourists.
The Jolley Trolley had 2 routes covering Clearwater Beach, Sand Key, Island Estates and Downtown Clearwater. Recent budget cuts by the City of Clearwater in mid-July have forced this non-profit organization to cut their services down to 2 trolley's and only one route. Currently there was only limited use of the Route between downtown Clearwater and the Beaches so they have decided to stop this route for now. This should allow them to continue to operate with the 35% less funding next year from the City of Clearwater. As the Clearwater Downtown revitalization continues they hope to add the Downtown route again as the demand for going downtown rises.
The good news is the Jolley Trolley is still a great bargain - The cost to ride the Trolley is still only $1.25 - in fact you can stay on as long as you want for that price. For the young (those 4-10) and the young at heart (those 65 and over)- you ride for less than half that price at just $.60 a trip. Babies and Toddlers under the age of 3 are FREE.
So don't worry about having a cocktail at a local restaurant or finding parking at various locations - just hop the Trolley and enjoy the ride! The typical round trip from North Clearwater Beach (Starting at the Regatta Beach Club) and going to Sand Key (to Ultimar) averages 35 minutes. You can catch the trolley at the posted signs located on almost every other block or just flag them down if you see them coming - if they can stop safely they will.

What a neat post, Cyndee. We had the Jolley Trolleys in Ogunquit Maine where we used to vacation. It was a great way to get around.
Love the additions to your post (testimonials, etc.) Great job. Are you getting any feedback?
Jeff
Hey Cyndee,
Jolly trolley, too fun. Glad to hear it's still running, even on a more limited basis. We've got one in our town too, fairly new only about 3 years.
Those trollies sound like fun. One question ... why are they set up to be non-profit? Would people resist if the price went up a little in order to fund them?
There is a similar trolley in Boynton Beach.... its full route won't be realized until the new "Heart of Boynton" project is complete but it still picks up at the Mall and drops off at the beach!
nice and fun method of getting around ... also a good way to capitalize on places short on parking!
I remember a restaurant growing up that used the comfort of the trolley called Ollie's Trolley... Supposedly they invented soft serve ice cream... and they had amazing fries with garlic pepper on them!
Cyndee,
The picture of the trolley is nice - love the palms in the background. Looks like a cheap and fun way to get around Clearwater Beaches.
Jennifer - how cool to know you have them there as well - we also have a roundabout that has been the source of much debate - all in all it's worked out to help - but oh the traffic accidents that have occurred:-(
I can't hear or think of the word Trolley without thinking of one of my favorite movies - Meet Me in St. Louis, and Judy singing "Clang clang clang, went the trolley..."
That's one of my favorite Judy Garland songs.
Trolleys are fun - and wow, so cheap to ride!
What a neat feature... I think I get to the Clearwater Beaches about once every 3 years! Sounds like a night out in Clearwater with the Haydon's :)
Karen Rice - thank you for stopping by to learn more about the trolley - it's always good to see you!
Leah - thanks for stopping by - we need to go for a ride together - you know I'll have my camera (LOL)
Just got home from Clearwater Beach. We were at stepson's condo at Belle Harbor. We walked most places. Just a couple questions. First, when we were at the aquarium, I noticed that you could purchase a weekly pass for the Jolly Trolley? If so, where? Can you us the trolley to get some groceries at Publix, (e.i., and bring a few grocery bags on the trolley. Next year we are flying, so won't have the car to get groceries, etc. Thanks! What a great place and loved watching the trolley and will use it next year.
