Public Notice....Beware! - A man eating Venus Flytrap was spotted in Saint Petersburg.

Gottcha....The man eating plant is actually harmless because it's the Audrey 2 and is the star of this years American Stage play, Little Shop of Horrors.
Every year Jack and I go to the American Stage's Play in the Park. It's held at Demen's Landing which is a city park is located on the site of the first railroad pier in St. Petersburg, This city park is in the heart of the St Petersburg's Sailing district.

We always arrive early (at least an hour before the gates open) to get great seats in the park. our favorite are those on the border of the blanket section and the low chair section.
This way we can throw down our blankets to picnic the 2 hours before the play begins and then move into our chairs for the 2 hours play (we're not getting any younger (lol));
This year's musical play, Little Shop of Horrors, was American Stage's 22nd year under the stars, and they did not disappoint. We have been going for the last 15 years - it's a "tradition" and a great excuse to have some old fashioned fun.. we pack an elaborate potluck picnic, have a Chinese gift exchange and relax under the stars for great fun, food and friends.
Do you have plays in the park where you live? Have you ever been to one? Is it something you enjoy? I'd love to hear about your experiences....

Oh and for those of you who want to check it out - good news, this funny and entertaining play has been extended through May 6th and I would highly recommend it. Take some friends and make it an annual event - I guarantee you'll look forward to it each year. And if you want to plan on going next year - mark your calendar the weekends of April 11-27, 2008 - they'll be doing Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. Maybe we'll see you there

Sounds like you guys should be buying custom logo beach towels or fleece blankets to give away to all your clients that want to go with you to see Seymour feed Audry 2
Very fun play
Louisville, KY had a couple things like this... one was the Louisville Orchestra would use its "Pops" series and bring in guest performers and play at the Zoo... there would be twilight Zoo tours and then the music would start with everyone surrounded by picnic baskets and citronella!
Indianapolis has one as well... a Jazz series down by the White River... I saw Keb Mo there... he's best known as Martha Stewart's friend and he wrote her theme music...
I think you've got something special there because Musicals like that are better for family functions and can draw huge crowds
Your local posts are getting better and better! We have a local theater company that just purchase the local Miami Shores Theater, but they don't do plays in the park, what a great idea. Your pictures are great and way to document the event!
Thank you Ines,
You would've gotten a laugh to watch as we're packing all the goodies and had to stop and run get my digital camera - I don't leave home without it (LOL) and then as we're in line with hundreds of strangers and I'm snapping pictures they were definitely intrigued - maybe I should print Blog Business Cards and invite people to come see themselves (LOL) online.
I try to remind myself to do double-duty when I'm out and about - I took an afternoon with the boys and went to a local game and now I've got "Devil Rays baseball series" in my brain and camera (including actual cowbell video)- just trying to find time to put it together. Thanks for the visit and the encouragement. Looking forward to seeing what's up on Miami today.........
What a great treat to share! It sounds like a wonderful time and a great way to enjoy friends, the Arts and Florida living!
